Nearly 63 percent of Chinese children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years old sleep less than eight hours per day, according to a white paper recently released by Chinese Sleep Research Society.

Some 81.2 percent of teenagers aged 13 to 17 years and 32.2 percent of children aged 6 to 12 years sleep less than 8 hours, said the white paper based on a survey of adolescents' sleep in 2019.

Children and adolescents in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region sleep the latest, with 16.2 percent going to bed after midnight. Those in east China's Jiangsu Province get up the earliest, with 3.7 percent getting up before 5 o'clock.

The white paper pointed out that homework pressure has the biggest effect on children's sleep.
